The final practice started at 8.30 this morning and everyone was concentrating hard and getting ready to perform pattern 10 in the Individual Medal competition. There were a couple of favourites but this was a new competition with everyone determined as the next to win the gold medal. Nerves play a major part in the final results and some athletes handle the stress better than others.
All the ladies dressed in their flashiest outfits with lots of bling. The competition was so exciting. There were tears of frustration, disappointment, and joy. Haley Franc from Saskatchewan riding Jacs Shy Boy ended up victorious with a 212 - 4.5 points ahead of second place Stephen Timberlake on Whiz Bang Boom from the USA South East team in the Junior competition. Emily Birch from Manitoba riding Sunup Dun It finished in fourth place.
The Young Rider division was won by Reed Kyle a very talented young man on A Ruf Gal with a 218. Megan Robinson from Manitoba finished in 4th place just 1 point short of the bronze medal.
Reining has a very promising future judging by the talent these young people showed in the Altech Arena this week.
Many thanks to the many sponsors who have made this possible. Hopefully we shall be back next year with many more young people ready to take their first steps on the international field.
