Final Competition

The final practice started at 8.30 this morning and everyone was concentrating hard and getting ready to perform pattern 10 in the Individual Medal competition. There were a couple of favourites but this was a new competition with everyone determined as the next to win the gold medal. Nerves play a major part in the final results and some athletes handle the stress better than others.

All the ladies dressed in their flashiest outfits with lots of bling. The competition was so exciting. There were tears of frustration, disappointment, and joy. Haley Franc from Saskatchewan riding Jacs Shy Boy ended up victorious with a 212 - 4.5 points ahead of second place Stephen Timberlake on Whiz Bang Boom from the USA South East team in the Junior competition. Emily Birch from Manitoba riding Sunup Dun It finished in fourth place.

The Young Rider division was won by Reed Kyle a very talented young man on A Ruf Gal with a 218. Megan Robinson from Manitoba finished in 4th place just 1 point short of the bronze medal.

Reining has a very promising future judging by the talent these young people showed in the Altech Arena this week.

Many thanks to the many sponsors who have made this possible. Hopefully we shall be back next year with many more young people ready to take their first steps on the international field.

Rest Day

Our daily Chefs' meeting was on as usual except for an hour later. It was nice to relax and have breakfast with Brian but I should have not delayed leaving for the park as Breyerfest started today and there was traffic lined up as far as the eye could see. I was ten minutes late for my meeting.

The riders and horses had a good work out today getting things sorted for the final competition tomorrow. There were a lot of determined focused faces and everyone was given the chance to work individually in the pen.

We were finished at the arena by 2.30 pm and I had even completed my paperwork consisting of nominations for the awards to be presented by the event. Brian and I, with Gizmo, of course, went on a nice drive around the countryside and a Chinese dinner. Early to bed tonight to try and catch up on some sleep before another hectic day tomorrow.

It will be so exciting

Canada has Silver and Bronze medal teams tonight thanks to some awesome rides by some of the youngest riders representing their country in international equestrian competition . Today was very exciting as each rider entered the arena determined to top their best but as we all know anything can happen in the pen.

The Canadian Junior team of Emily Birch (Sunup Dun It) and Micaela Maharaj (Fancy Footprint) from Manitoba, Emily Wilson (Miss Cielo Chex) of Ontario, and Haley Franc (Jacs Shy Boy), Saskatchewan scored a 592.5 good enough for the silver medal just 1.5 points short of gold medal winners USA South East with a total of 594. The bronze medal went to USA South Central with a combined total of 583.5. The highest individual score was set by Karl Johnson on Roses for Wrangler closely followed by Haley Franc and Micaela Maharaj

The Young Rider team of Megan Robinson (Sheza Smart Cookie), Manitoba and Starr Boisvert (Stick To Your Guns), Ontario scored 415 to receive the bronze medal. USA South Central won the gold with 642 and USA South East the silver with a total 623.5. Megan received the second highest individual score of the competition.

The Individual competition on Saturday will be very exciting. All riders advance. Congratulations

Young athletes with their horses travelled from across Canada to Lexington Kentucky once again this year for the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships.

Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario are represented with more Juniors than Young Riders. Sorry some could not join us but hopefully they will be well prepared for next year. Others who have been competing each year are now too old so it is great we have a full team of Juniors who will hopefully stay with the program.

Everyone arrived safe and sound throughout the day on Monday and yesterday. Our discipline vet Terry Swanson aircraft was delayed so we did not get in barn inspections done until today just before the jog.

The opening ceremonies went well with a change of location due to the heat. It seems strange to be the only event on the grounds but refreshing not to have the usual zoo that exists down the main street. After the opening ceremonies we all made the trek over to Spy Coast Farms a gorgeous jump barn next door to the Kentucky Horse Park. These people gave us a great opening party with lots of beverage, good food, dancing, and plenty of fun.

Today all the Reiners got through the jog and rode the Welcome competition smartly to help settle nerves and remind the horses they need to listen and not think they know what we want. It was a great day ending in a huge thunderstorm and a soaking to the skin while everyone ran to their vehicles. Team competition tomorrow. Should be very exciting. Lots of good horses and young talent.
